The curriculum is everything that a child learns in school. At Cross Flatts we follow the guidelines of the National Curriculum which is made up of the following subjects: Core Subjects: Foundation Subjects:
- Art, Music, Geography, PE, Design Technology, History, Religious Education
In order to achieve a breadth in the curriculum, we also feel it necessary to include other subjects. These often run across the curriculum areas:
Personal Health, Social Education and Citizenship Environmental Issues, Study Skills, Equal Opportunities.
Years 1 and 2 follow the curriculum for Key Stage 1. Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 follow the curriculum for Key Stage 2. Reception Class are working towards the National curriculum in the Foundation Stage.
Delivery of the Curriculum
A range of teaching approaches are used to deliver the curriculum, hence children may work as a class, in groups or individually. Classes are usually taught by their own class teacher, but may also be taken by other teachers with specialist subject knowledge.
We aim to constantly challenge the children and help them to move forward at a steady pace. We plan to provide each child with tasks at an appropriate level, based whenever possible on first hand experience and geared to their needs. Each child’s progress is constantly monitored and recorded against school / NC targets. We have policies and schemes of work concerning the areas of the curriculum which we teach. Parents are very welcome to come into school and look at our documents. We also have articles and information from the DfES and Education Leeds available for parents to see.
